True Hybrid Druid · WoW Forever

One druid. Every role. All in the same fight.

Follow Regent Ironfur, a druid in WoW Forever, playing as a true hybrid in the open world: healing, ranged damage, and bear and cat forms, shifting constantly to get the most out of the druid's huge toolkit.

Launch: November 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. Pacific
Regent Ironfur, a Skyborne druid with long pale-blue hair, red feathers, and green and gold robes

The True Hybrid

Most druids pick one job and stay in one form. Regent Ironfur does the opposite: heal, nuke, tank, and claw within the same pull, and shift whenever another form gains more than it costs. The open world is the testing ground, and the goal is to show how far a druid can go by using everything at once. Pure specs still win at min/maxing in raids, groups, and PvP, but for leveling and the open world, the hybrid is a great build you can play the whole way.

Macros

Early drafts. WoW Forever isn't out yet, so these are first versions written before launch. Expect them to change and grow once they're tested in the live game.

The macros put a whole fight on a few buttons. Each key starts your attack and does damage when you're targeting an enemy, and heals when you target a friend, mouse over one, or hold a modifier key. Spells sit on the same key when they work alike: instant damage pairs with an instant heal, and cast-time damage pairs with a cast-time heal.

How to read a macro
[mod]
You're holding a modifier key (Shift, Ctrl, or Alt).
[@mouseover,help,nodead]
Cast on the living friendly player under your mouse cursor, without changing your target.
[harm] / [noharm]
Your target is an enemy / isn't an enemy. With no enemy targeted, heals land on your target or on you.
[form:1] / [noform:1]
You're in Bear Form / you aren't, so the macro shifts you first.
/startattack [harm]
Turns on auto-attack whenever you're targeting an enemy.
#showtooltip
Shows the icon and tooltip of whichever spell the macro will cast.

Guides

Full guides are being written now. Here's what's planned.

Druid Deep Dive

Talents, gear, and spell choices for a druid who heals, casts, tanks, and claws, plus when each form pays off. The first part is ready now: Hybrid Talents walks you through picking a start.

Start your hybrid

Professions & Gold: Herbalism + Alchemy

Herbalism is one click: grab the herb and keep moving. Alchemy turns those herbs into elixirs that keep every stat boosted. The buffs drop when you die, but early on they cover the gaps while your gear catches up to the do-anything build.

Coming soon

Dungeon Fundamentals

Plan to do anything the group needs: heal, deal damage, or swap roles mid-pull. Plus a heavy tanking setup for when the group needs a bear up front.

UI & “No Addons”

A clean, fast interface built only with the game's own settings, set up from a brand-new character. Addon-free for as long as possible.

UI Setup: No Addons

Set up a brand-new character for maximum screen space and control, using only the game's built-in Edit Mode and settings. The goal is a clear center of the screen, every key within reach, and macros doing the heavy lifting. Watch the video walkthrough.

  1. Clean up the screen in Edit Mode

    • Open Edit Mode and start from the Modern layout.
    • Turn off the action bar art.
    • Move the experience bar to the top of the screen, then tuck the bags and menu into a corner.
    • Move chat to where it won't sit under your action bars.
  2. Bring your character to the center

    • Pull your player frame and target frame in close so you can see your own health and your enemy's at a glance.
    • Put the cast bar in the center or just under the frames, whichever you prefer.
    • Keep the middle of the screen clear: buffs and debuffs can go top right, where you don't need to watch them constantly.
  3. Free up keys

    • In Options › Keybindings, clear the Shift bindings you'll never use (like the pet and party extras) so Shift combos are free for your own buttons.
    • Move strafing to A and D. That frees Q and E, two of the best keys you have.
    • While you're in Options, turn on Auto Loot.
  4. Set up party targeting

    • Bind party targets to the F keys, plus Shift versions if you want them.
    • Skip F4: hold Alt by accident and Alt+F4 closes the game.
    • Start using these early, so they're habit long before dungeons and raids.
  5. Turn on and reshape your action bars

    • Enable action bars 2 through 5. Keep bar 1 if you shift forms a lot, which a hybrid druid does.
    • The pet bar and stance bar can share the same spot; few characters ever need both.
    • Shape each bar to match the keys it uses. Bar 1 runs across 1 through =; food and water fit on - and =, since they're never an emergency.
    • Bar 2 sits on the letter keys around W A S D: Q E R T F on top and Z X C V G below.
    • Whatever those letter keys used to do moves to Alt + the same key, so nothing is lost.
    • Hide the bar paging arrows. All your bars are on screen, so you never need to flip pages.
  6. Use your mouse buttons

    • If your mouse has extra buttons, shape a bar to match them (a 12-button mouse is 4 rows of 3).
    • Map those mouse buttons to the numpad (0–9 plus / * - + .), since you probably don't use it, then bind the bar with Quick Keybind mode.
    • Keep Num Lock on, or every numpad binding stops working.
    • Tip: if a bar in the center gets in the way while you bind keys, move it aside, bind, then move it back.
  7. Party and raid frames

    • Show party frames so you can see everyone's health and your healer's mana.
    • Set raid frames to combine groups, horizontal so they don't cover your view. Sort by group or by role, whichever suits you.
    • Show buffs and debuffs on the frames. A druid cleansing curses and poisons will want to see debuffs.
    • Shrink the frames down: legible, but not taking over the screen. Then save your layout.
  8. Add a Shift + Space button

    • Leave Space as jump, but bind Shift+Space to a button of its own.
    • It's a natural spot for something you use while jumping or running, like a slow fall or a speed boost, and it makes a great emergency button.
  9. Build your first one-button macro

    • At level 1 you only have Wrath and Healing Touch, and one macro can cover both: damage when you target an enemy, heal when you hold a modifier or target a friend.
    • Start every macro with #showtooltip, then pick the question-mark icon. The game fills in the right icon and tooltip for you.
    • Pair spells that feel the same: cast-time with cast-time, instant with instant. See all the macros.

  • Bar 2 · Q E R T F and Z X C V G, around W A S D (Wrath macro on Q)
  • Mouse bar · 12 Naga side buttons send numpad keys (green numbers on both). Num / * . are spares. Keep Num Lock on.
  • Movement · W A S D, with strafe on A and D
  • Alt + key · whatever Q, E, R and the rest used to do
  • Shift + Space · an extra button for slow fall or a speed boost

Prefer no macros? Two buttons, three times the hotkeys

Many MMO mice come with a swappable side plate. On a 2-button plate, set one button to Shift and the other to Ctrl. Then bind a second action bar to Shift + 1, 2, 3… and a third to Ctrl + 1, 2, 3…. Every hotkey you already know now has two more uses, with no macros at all.

1→Shift 2→Ctrl
No button12345Bar 1
Hold button 1⇧1⇧2⇧3⇧4⇧5Bar 2
Hold button 2^1^2^3^4^5Bar 3

Steer clear of Alt for this: Alt + F4 closes the game, and Regent's layout already uses Alt for the old letter-key binds.
